This extract is derived form the exudate of Boswellia serrata plant belonging to family Burseraceae. Boswellia serrata is commonly called Shallaki. This Indian herb is historically been used as an antiarthritic and antiinflammatory. It is also used as anti-inflammatory, diarrhea, dysentery, diuretic, diaphoretic, antipyretic, stomachic, emmenagogue, and many more. The major phytoconstituent is a volatile oil, a range of triterpene acids- Boswellic acids.
